Request for CV’s/ expression of interest

  Position Title: Consultant/Cultural Orientation Trainer Duty Station: Estonia Classification: Consultant Closing Date: 25 March 2012 Reference Code : EE10_2012_Consultant

Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

This is a request for CVs/expression of interests by IOM Estonia for qualified candidates to join its CO team within the project it implements in Estonia. The total estimated input required ranges between 10 to 25 days. The consultant is expected to undertake duty trips necessary for the project implementation. Recruitment is subject to funding availability and confirmation.

Context: The Cultural Orientation (CO) trainer is primarily responsible for preparing and carrying out trainings to refugees through direct instruction, implementing curriculum developed by the organization in accordance with common CO guidelines. The CO trainer will be supervised by the CAP-CO Team and will report to the CAP-CO coordinator. The project “CAP-CO” is funded by the European Refugee Fund and Estonian Ministry of the Interior.

Core functions/ responsibilities: • Participate in relevant CO trainings for trainers. • Conduct CO training sessions for groups of 4-10 participants. • Maintain accurate attendance records. • Communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with the CAP-CO project team. • Maintain a current understanding of the overall Programme and the issues related to CO. • Assist with the training and supervision of interpreters as required. • Assist with logistical arrangements and the upkeep of facilities when necessary. • Prepare for cultural orientation circuit rides by reviewing information about participants to be trained, developing lesson plans specific to those participants, gathering necessary training materials, and printing class lists and name tags. Desirable Competencies: • Secondary school education or equivalent diploma and some experience in dealing with irregular migration. • Experience in education/training is an asset. • Willingness to travel to meet the programme’s needs. • Excellent interpersonal skills; empathy and ability to work effectively with colleagues and partners in a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary environment. • Proficiency in database management, Microsoft Office programs, and e-mail. • Knowledge of one of the following language combination: English and Russian, English and French of English and Arabic. • Ability to maintain high performance standards with attention to detail. • Ability to exercise good judgement and seek guidance as appropriate when confronted with unanticipated problems.
